The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a 13-day journey around Mt. Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain on earth. The journey takes you through remote villages, dense forest, and high alpine trails, culminating at Larke La pass at an altitude of 16,732 feet. Trek along the Budhi Gandaki river, visit ancient monasteries, and get up close to Manaslu and her sister peaks. This trek is a memorable adventure for trekkers who are looking for an off-the-beaten-path experience filled with rich Tibetan culture, diverse wildlife, and some of the most rewarding mountain scenery in Nepal.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek takes you around Mt. Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain in the world at 8,163 meters. The mountain sits in the Mansiri Himal, part of the Nepalese Himalayas in west-central Nepal, and its name means "mountain of the spirit."

This 13-day Manaslu Circuit Trek route follows an old salt trading path along the Budhi Gandaki river, so you get a real sense of history with every step. It is one of the best trekking routes in Nepal for people who want mountain views without the crowds you find on more popular trails.

Most of this trek passes through the Manaslu Conservation Area. Since 1998 the protected area covers 1,663 square kilometers in the Gorkha district and includes mountains, glaciers, and river valleys. There are 33 species of mammals, including the snow leopard, musk deer, and Himalayan tahr, and more than 110 species of birds.

Trekking through this landscape, you move from warm lowland villages to high alpine terrain in just a few days, and the changing scenery keeps every day of the Manaslu Circuit Trek itinerary feeling new.

Culture is just as big a part of this Manaslu circuit journey as the mountains. You will pass through Nubri and Tsum villages, where Tibetan Buddhist traditions still shape daily life. Look out for old monasteries, prayer flags, and mannequins along the trail. The people here have kept their customs largely intact since this region opened to trekkers only in the 1990s. That history is part of why the Manaslu Circuit Trek feels so different from busier routes like Everest or Annapurna.

The 13-day Manaslu Circuit trek reaches its high point at Larke La pass, sitting at 5,106 meters. The trek is arduous, but the summit offers a panoramic view of Manaslu and the neighboring peaks. It is said that crossing this pass is the hardest and most memorable day of the entire trip. For a real Himalayan adventure that combines nature, culture and a real sense of achievement, this trek has it all.

Manaslu Circuit Trek
Itinerary

The thrilling 13-day Manaslu Circuit Trek gives you the full blended experience of culture, adventure, and nature. Here are the day by day details down below.

Trip PlanExpand all

Your Manaslu Circuit Trek begins upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Most travelers can get a visa on arrival by filling out a simple form and paying the visa fee in cash or card, so keep a passport photo and some cash ready. Our airport representative will greet you outside and transfer you to your hotel. Kathmandu sits at an elevation of 1,400 meters and serves as the starting and ending point of this trek. There is no trekking distance today, only your arrival and settling in.

After check-in and a little rest, our team will give a pre-trip briefing to go over your Manaslu Circuit Trek itinerary, necessary permits, packing checklist, and safety guidelines. It is a good time to ask questions and to get to know your guide before the trek starts. If you still have the energy and time in the evening, head to Thamel, a busy tourist hub in Kathmandu. It's got gear shops, bookstores, cafes, and local restaurants and is a great place to pick up any last-minute trekking gear or just soak up the buzzing atmosphere before heading out on the trail.

Max Altitude: 1,400 m/4,592 ft Accommodation: 3-star hotelMode of Travel: Private jeep

After breakfast, you will begin the Manaslu Circuit Trek with a long scenic drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola. The drive is roughly 150 kilometers long and takes around 7 to 8 hours by local bus or jeep. The road snakes through hills, terraced farmland, and little villages along the way, and you get your first real taste of rural Nepal.

The route leaves the Kathmandu valley and follows the Trishuli and Budhi Gandaki river valleys. The terrain is more rugged when you reach the Manaslu region. The last part of the drive is bumpy as the road narrows and winds up the side of the hill, so keep hydrated and stop when you can.

In the evening you arrive at Machha Khola. This small village is on a hill beside the Budhi Gandaki river and is the starting point of your real trek. The quiet surroundings and mountain air offer a peaceful antidote to the busy drive and a perfect first night before your trek really begins tomorrow.

Max Altitude: 930 m/3,050 ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerAccommodation: Tea houseMode of Travel: Bus or JeepDuration: 7-8 hrs. drive

After breakfast, today your actual trekking on the Manaslu Circuit Trek begins. The trail follows the jeep road for the first couple of hours, then crosses the Budhi Gandaki river on a suspension bridge. Then you get on the real trekking trail, which drifts through tiny hamlets along the river.

You will stop for lunch at Dobhan, a small village on the route with simple tea houses. After lunch the trail continues on toward Jagat, passing through a section of a large landslide area. This section requires more care as the path narrows and the ground can be loose, so proceed cautiously and follow your guide's lead.

You will arrive in Jagat, a charming stone village with spectacular views over the Budhi Gandaki gorge by late afternoon. Your trekking permits also start to be checked here. Jagat is the gateway to the restricted Manaslu Conservation Area. The traditional architecture of the village and the mountain backdrop make it a memorable stop on day two of your walk.

Max Altitude: 1,410 m/4,625 ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerAccommodation: Tea houseDuration: 5-6 hrs. walk

After breakfast, the Manaslu Circuit Trek continues from Jagat toward Deng. The trail begins on the jeep route until Ghatte Khola, then switches to a proper trekking path. You will cross another suspension bridge and pass through Philim village, a key checkpoint where your Manaslu Restricted Area Permit and Manaslu Conservation Area Permit get registered. This route follows an old salt trading path that traders once used to move goods between Tibet and Nepal, so the trail itself carries a real sense of history.

After around 40 minutes past Philim, you will reach Ekle Bhatti for lunch. From here, the trail forks: the right path leads to Tsum Valley, while the left path continues on the Manaslu Circuit Trek route. Then you take the left trail and spend the rest of the day walking through dense forest. The forest section is full of pine & rhododendron trees and the trek is very close to the gorge of the Budhi Gandaki river with steep valley walls on either side. In the evening you will reach Deng, a peaceful village set in the hills, your ongoing climb further into the Manaslu region.

Max Altitude: 1,800 m/5,904 ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerAccommodation: Tea houseDuration: 6-7 hrs. walk

Today on the Manaslu Circuit Trek you will trek from Deng to Namrung village on a trail of many ups and downs. The trail winds through the hillside; you will cross a few suspension bridges over rushing mountain streams. There are a few small, beautiful villages along the way that provide insight into the daily lives of the local Nubri community.

Just over the halfway point, the trail drops into a thick forest section before steadily climbing to Namrung. This last ascent is the toughest part of the day but the change of scene from thick woodland to open ridgelines makes the walk interesting. As you ascend, you'll also begin to notice the landscape changing, with the flora slowly becoming more alpine.

Namrung village marks an important point on the Manaslu Circuit Trek route, since it sits close to the boundary where mountain views begin opening up more clearly. The village itself is known for its traditional stone houses and quiet, mountain setting, a wonderful place to rest before the trail pushes further into higher-altitude terrain over the coming days.

Max Altitude: 2,660 m/8,725 ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerAccommodation: Tea houseDuration: 6-7 hrs. walk

After breakfast we will continue our trek from Namrung to Syala Gaon. This is one of the most scenic days of the trek so far. The trail passes through a number of typical high mountain villages, made of traditional stone houses and surrounded by terraced fields. As you climb higher, the landscape changes from forested slopes to more open, alpine terrain.

After passing through Sho village, you will get your first glimpse of Mt. Manaslu, a moment many trekkers consider the true start of the mountain views on this trip. About half an hour later, you will reach Lho Gaon, where you will stop for lunch with a stunning backdrop of Manaslu rising above the village. Lho also has a large monastery, giving you a taste of the Tibetan Buddhist culture that you’ll experience throughout the Manaslu region.

After lunch, the trail continues over a mix of ups and downs, crossing patches of forest before reaching Syala Gaon by evening. This small village offers some of the clearest mountain panoramas on the entire trek. If the sky is clear, you can enjoy a lovely sunset over Mt. Manaslu, a fitting end to a day that has provided you with your first real mountain views.

Max Altitude: 3,520 m./11,545 ft. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerAccommodation: Tea houseDuration: 5-6 hrs. walk

Today is a key acclimatization day on the Manaslu Circuit Trek, built in to help your body get used to the increasing altitude. Many trekkers rise early to catch a beautiful sunrise view of Mt. Manaslu before setting out. After breakfast you will trek up toward Pungyen Monastery, which is one of the oldest monasteries in the region. It is located at the base of the mountain.

This side hike climbs to around 4,000 meters and provides some of the most spectacular and closest views of Manaslu and its surrounding peaks of the whole trek. Pungyen Monastery is very culturally and spiritually important to the local Tibetan Buddhist community and the isolation of the location gives the walk a timeless sense of peace. Enjoy views and the quiet mountain atmosphere.

After the hike, you will descend and continue trekking to Samagaon, a large village and important acclimatization stop on the Manaslu Circuit Trek itinerary. Samagaon has a Buddhist monastery with resident monks and nuns and it gives you a deeper look into the Nubri culture that defines this region. Your body gets a benefit from the extra elevation you got today and then slept a bit lower. It helps you get ready for the higher elevations to come.

Max Altitude: 4,000 m/13,120 ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerAccommodation: Tea houseDuration: 7-8 hrs. walk

Today’s hike on the Manaslu Circuit Trek is short and easy, giving you more time to acclimate to the altitude. After breakfast we will leave Samagaon and take a gentle trail through a wide-open valley with constant views of the surrounding peaks. The walk is peaceful with significantly less elevation gain than previous days.

Along the trail spot Himalayan blue sheep and other animals that live in this portion of the Manaslu Conservation Area. Here the valley is quieter and more remote, with a raw, high-altitude feel as you approach the Tibetan border region. Before the last approach into Samdo, you will cross the Budhi Gandaki river once more.

Samdo, the highest permanent village in the Budhi Gandaki valley, is settled by the Bhotia community, who have strong cultural links to Tibet. There are great views over the valley and the neighboring village of Pang Phuchi with the Tibetan border visible in the distance. After lunch, most trekkers will have a short acclimatization walk up the nearby hill to help with the altitude adjustment before tackling the higher passes ahead.

Max Altitude: 3,875 m/12,710 ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerAccommodation: Tea houseDuration: 3-4 hrs. walk

Today’s trek on the Manaslu Circuit Trek is short in distance but a little more demanding, as the trail climbs steadily uphill for most of the day. After breakfast, you will depart Samdo and start the ascent to Dharamsala, gaining almost 600 meters in elevation. The air is thinner at this altitude and the walk is more strenuous than the distance would imply.

You enter the alpine zone of the Manaslu region as the track passes through an open high-altitude terrain with scattered vegetation. On the way there is a good chance of seeing herds of blue sheep grazing in the hillside pastures. The views open up dramatically here with close-up glimpses of the peaks surrounding Larke La Pass beginning to appear.

After 4-5 hours of walking, you will arrive in Dharamsala, the last overnight stop before crossing the pass. The place is a simple settlement that is largely there to support trekkers before their push over Larke La, so accommodation is basic. So, sleep tight and drink lots of water tonight, as tomorrow is the most difficult and rewarding day of the entire Manaslu Circuit Trek itinerary.

Max Altitude: 4,470 m/14,662 ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerAccommodation: Tea houseDuration: 4-5 hrs. walk

The Manaslu Circuit Trek's hardest and best day is both today. The Larke La Pass is the highest point of the whole trek and you will need to get up early (around 4 am) to cross it. It is 5,106 meters high. Starting before sunrise helps you avoid strong winds that tend to pick up later in the day and gives you enough time to complete this long, demanding stretch safely.

The climb to the pass is not technically difficult, but the high altitude and long duration make it tough. Larke La is a glacial saddle sitting north of Mt. Manaslu, and from the top, you get sweeping views of ten peaks above 6,500 meters, including several rising past 7,000 meters. Take a moment here to enjoy the view and capture photos, since this is the highlight of the whole Manaslu Circuit Trek itinerary.

After the pass, the trail descends toward Bhimthang. Some sections here are steep and slippery, so careful footing matters. As you drop in elevation, the terrain softens and the mountain scenery shifts. By evening, you will reach Bhimthang, a scenic village that offers a well-earned sense of relief and beautiful views of Manaslu from a fresh angle.

Max Altitude: 5,106 m/16,752 ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerAccommodation: Tea houseDuration: 8-9 hrs. walk

The Manaslu Circuit Trek takes you from Bhimthang to Tilje today. Tilje is the last stop on this trek. You will have to cross the thrilling Larke-La Pass. After breakfast, you will go down through rhododendron forests, which is a big change from the last couple of days' high-altitude, dry terrain.

The path descends in a gradual manner, crossing rivers and small villages. The air is noticeably warmer as you go down, the vegetation is thicker, and the birdsong replaces the quiet stillness of the high mountains. This stretch also indicates that you are slowly moving out of the Manaslu region and entering the Annapurna Conservation Area.

At the end of the day, you will reach Tilje, the last village of the Manaslu Circuit trek route. Walking into Tilje makes a fitting end to your trekking days, a mixture of relief and accomplishment once the most difficult parts of the journey are behind you. Tomorrow you start the drive back to Kathmandu.

Max Altitude: 2,300 m/7,544 ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerAccommodation: Tea houseDuration: 6-7 hrs. walk

Today you drive back to Kathmandu from Dharapani. It's your return journey on the Manaslu Circuit Trek. After breakfast, you will leave the village and start the long drive, dropping down along the Marshyangdi river valley through Besisahar, the town that is also the starting point of the Annapurna Circuit Trek.

As the road winds down from the hills to the Kathmandu valley, it passes through local markets, cultivated farmland, and small towns. It’s a scenic drive—one last glance at the rural landscapes of central Nepal before you return to the busier city setting. It is about an 8- to 9-hour drive, so plan to stop a few times on the way to stretch and rest.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will have some time to relax at your hotel. On the last night of your Manaslu Circuit Trek, Adventure Hikers will plan a farewell dinner with a live Nepali cultural show to celebrate. As a lovely memento for the end of this adventure, you will also receive a trip completion certificate.

Max Altitude: 1,400 m/4,592 ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerAccommodation: 3-star hotelDuration: 8-9 hrs. drive

You're about to leave Kathmandu for good today, which is the last day of your Manaslu Circuit Trek. Your group will drop you off at Tribhuvan International Airport so that you can continue your trip on time. This was the end of an unforgettable adventure through the Manaslu region with mountain views, cultural encounters, and the challenge of crossing Larke La Pass. We hope you will leave with memories for a lifetime and a desire to return again to the Nepalese Himalayas.

Essential Information

Best Time for Manaslu Circuit Trek

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is best done in the spring and autumn seasons, as the weather remains dry and clear. Spring, from March to May, features mild temperatures and blooming rhododendron forests along the lower trail. With good visibility this season is a great time to enjoy close-up views of Mt. Manaslu and the surrounding peaks.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is most popular from September to November, which is the autumn season. Weather is stable, skies mostly clear, and temperatures comfortable for long days of trekking. It is also the time just post monsoon so the trails are lush green and the views of the mountains tend to be the sharpest.

Summer (June–August) and winter (December–February) are not good times to go on this trek. The monsoon rains in the summer make the trails slippery and prone to landslides. In the winter, the higher elevations get frigid and snowy, especially around the Larke La Pass. You can also go trekking during these months but it is harder. It’s best to go Manaslu Circuit trekking in spring and fall. It’s safer and more enjoyable.

Accommodation During Manaslu Circuit Trek

Adventure Hikers include all accommodation along the Manaslu Circuit Trek in local tea houses in the package. These tea houses offer simple but comfortable rooms, mostly with twin-sharing beds, blankets and a common dining area where trekkers meet in the evening. The facilities become more basic the higher you go but any teahouse along the way provides a warm place to rest after a long day’s walk.

Tea houses usually have shared bathrooms. Hot showers are available in lower villages, but become less common at altitude. In places like Samdo and Dharamsala you may have to pay separately for a bucket of hot water (hot showers are rare above 3,500m). Rooms are basic with just enough space for a bed and your backpack but they do the job well for a good night's sleep before the next day's trek.

You will also get 3 nights at a comfortable 3-star hotel in Kathmandu before and after your trek as part of your Manaslu Circuit Trek package. This allows you a proper rest and a chance to freshen up at the beginning and end of your journey. From Kathmandu to the high mountain villages, accommodation will be arranged for you at every stage of the trip so you can focus on the trekking experience and not worry about where you will spend each night.

Food During Manaslu Circuit Trek

Adventure Hikers covers food throughout the Manaslu Circuit Trek in your package. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all provided every day of the trek. Tea houses along the way serve a mix of Nepali and Western food, and most have both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The variety of food is great enough to keep you well fed and energized during the long days of trekking.

Dal Bhat is the most popular meal on the trail and is a traditional Nepali meal of rice, lentil soup and vegetables. Trekkers like Dal Bhat because it has a good balance of carbohydrates and nutrients. Many tea houses also have items such as noodles, soup, pasta and porridge, which gives you enough choice to keep meals interesting over the 13-day journey. The higher you go, the simpler the menu choices, but there are hot, filling meals at all levels.

Clean drinking water is available all along the trail, and tea houses are happy to boil water on demand. It’s best to bring a reusable water bottle and water purification tablets or drops since bottled water quickly becomes expensive and creates plastic waste at higher altitudes. Your Manaslu Circuit Trek package will include all meals, allowing you to focus on the trek and not worry about where your next meal will be coming from.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Difficulty

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is rated moderate to strenuous difficulty and is ideal for hikers with a good level of fitness and some prior hiking experience. The trail does involve long days of walking, high-altitude country and a tough pass crossing, so good preparation is more important than technical climbing skill. If you are properly trained and have the right mindset, most healthy trekkers can successfully do this journey.

Manaslu Circuit influencing factors Trek difficulty:

  • Long days of walking: averaging between 5 and 8 hours on the trail, with Day 10 lasting up to 9 hours.
  • High altitude gain: maximum elevation of 5,106 meters at Larke La Pass
  • Challenging terrain: rocky tracks, steep climbs and drops, tight spots close to landslip sites
  • Risk of altitude sickness: common over 3,500m due to reduced oxygen level
  • Remote location: limited access to medical facilities deep inside the Manaslu region
  • Weather exposure: cold temperatures and possibly snow, even in trekking season, near the high pass

Regular cardio and strength training before the trek to build stamina makes a real difference. Also, if you take it slow and drink plenty of water, you will find it easier to complete the Manaslu Circuit Trek, especially during the acclimatization days and when crossing the Larke La Pass, by following the pace of your guide.

Permits Required for Manaslu Circuit Trek

The Manaslu region is a restricted area in Nepal, so trekkers need a couple of official permits to commence the Manaslu Circuit Trek. These permits help to protect the region’s natural environment and cultural heritage, as well as benefit local communities. Your trek package includes all permits, so you don't need to make any extra arrangements.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Permits required:

  • Manaslu Restricted Area Entrance Special Permit: As the region falls in a restricted zone, the permit is required, and costs vary according to season and length of trip.
  • Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) Permit: promotes conservation in the protected area
  • Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Permit: This permit is required because the trek enters the Annapurna Conservation Area near Dharapani. Annapurna Conservation Area near Dharapani
  • Entrance Permit for Tsum Nubri Rural Municipality: A local fee for entry to the Tsum Nubri municipality.

All permits can be obtained only through a registered trekking agency in Kathmandu. Solo trekking without a guide is not permitted due to new restricted area permit rules. These are part of your Manaslu Circuit Trek package and our team handles the paperwork and registration checkpoints along the trail, so you can concentrate on the trek itself.

Travel Insurance for Manaslu Circuit Trek

Travel Insurance is not included in your Manaslu Circuit Trek package. However, it is highly recommended for all those who are undertaking this journey. The trek takes you to high altitudes such as Larke La Pass at 5,106 meters so the right coverage will give you peace of mind in case of emergencies. It is not a legal requirement, but most seasoned trekkers consider this an essential part of preparing for a trip.

Make sure that your policy covers high altitude trekking, ideally to 6,000m, as most standard travel insurance policies will not cover trekking above a certain altitude. Emergency helicopter evacuation should also be covered by your insurance, which is an important consideration given the remoteness of the Manaslu region. If you don’t have good coverage, evacuating from places like Samdo or Dharamsala can be expensive, so this is one area it pays to overspend.

A good travel insurance policy should include coverage for medical expenses, trip cancellation and loss of baggage or personal gear, not just evacuation. However, be sure to read the small print, as some policies don’t cover certain activities or altitude ranges. Arranging travel insurance before you arrive in Nepal is the easiest way to do it, and it means one less thing to worry about when your Manaslu Circuit Trek begins.

Guide and Porter for Manaslu Circuit Trek

On every Manaslu Circuit Trek with Adventure Hikers, you will be accompanied by an experienced, government-registered trekking guide. The Manaslu region is off-limits to the public, so you need to hire a guide. Better get an experienced one so you can obey the rules. Our guides are well trained to recognize the early symptoms of altitude sickness and have a keen interest in the local culture. Your safety is paramount in the design of this trek.

You will also get an experienced porter to help carry your load beside your guide so that you can trek comfortably without the burden of a heavy backpack. The porters on the Manaslu Circuit Trek are experienced in the terrain and high-altitude conditions, and they play an important role in making sure that the trek remains smooth and manageable for each trekker in the group. Both the guide and porter are appropriately geared and a duffle bag is included for the porter as part of the package.

Besides logistics, your guide and porter will add a special touch to your trip. They tell you stories of local traditions, help you interact with the villagers on the way and are often a memorable part of the whole Manaslu Circuit Trek experience. They do everything else so you can just concentrate on the walk and the views.

Other Essential Information for Manaslu Circuit Trek

Beyond permits, gear, and accommodation, there are a few practical details you’ll want to know before you start your Manaslu Circuit Trek. These small details can significantly impact the overall smoothness of your trip once you hit the trail.

Extra Cash

Once you leave Kathmandu, there are no ATMs, so take enough Nepali Rupees in cash for the entire trek. This includes money for snacks, hot showers, charging batteries, wifi, souvenirs and tips. Best to exchange/withdraw cash in Kathmandu prior to departure, as card payments are not accepted along the trail.

Internet on Trial

Most tea houses along the Manaslu Circuit Trek have Wi-Fi, but it's an additional cost that gets more expensive and slower the higher you go. A local SIM card with data such as Ncell or NTC will work in the lower sections but coverage is patchy past Samagaon. Don’t expect fast or constant connectivity when you are deep in the mountains.

Tips and Gratitude

Tipping your guide and porter is customary but not included in the trek package. Typically a group tip is given at the end of the trek and the amount is usually based on the length of service and the quality of support received. Have some extra money saved up just for this.

Availability of Drinking Water on Route

Safe drinking water is provided along the trail. Tea houses will sell you boiled water for a small fee, and you can fill your bottle with water from natural sources and purify it with tablets or drops. We highly recommend bringing a reusable water bottle, since buying bottled water becomes costly at higher altitudes.

Transportation during the trek

Manaslu Circuit Trek distance The overall distance of the Manaslu Circuit Trek is around 177 kilometers from Machha Khola to Dharapani. The distance takes 10-11 days of actual walking, averaging 12-15 kilometers per day. The trail is from low-altitude villages up to Larke La Pass and down again so the distance plus altitude change makes the trek seem longer than the number on the distance would suggest.

The highlight and the toughest part of the whole trek is crossing the Larke La Pass at 5,106 meters. You normally leave early (around 4 AM) to make the most of the strong afternoon winds and to have enough daylight to get across the long crossing safely. The climb itself isn’t technically difficult, but the high altitude, cold temperatures, and long duration make it hard on the body. Reaching the summit is rewarded with panoramic views of Manaslu and several neighboring peaks, a moment most trekkers say is the most memorable part of their trip.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek difficulty is moderate to strenuous with long walking days and one major high-altitude pass. You don’t have to be a technical climber, but you do have to be in good shape. We recommend you start training at least a month before the trek, focusing on cardio activities like running, cycling, and hiking, as well as some strength training. Also, regularly hiking with a loaded backpack in the weeks leading up to your trip helps your body adjust faster when you're on the trail.

There are a number of important monasteries in the Manaslu area, showing the strong Tibetan Buddhist heritage. One of the oldest and most important is the Pungyen Monastery near Samagaon at the foot of Mt. Manaslu. You'll also see monasteries in Lho Gaon and Samagaon village. Monks and nuns still live in both of these places. The monasteries add a spiritual and cultural aspect to the beautiful mountain views of the hike.

Yes, there are. The first and important one is to respect the rules of the area when you visit monasteries. Before taking pictures inside, you should always ask first. As is the custom, take off your shoes before entering prayer halls and walk clockwise around religious buildings like stupas and mani walls. Dress modestly and keep your voice down; these are active places of worship, not just tourist sites. Your guide will usually inform you of the specific etiquette for each monastery you visit.

As you climb above 3,500 meters the air thins and your body takes time to adapt, which can lead to altitude sickness. Symptoms often include headaches, nausea, dizziness, and breathlessness. If left untreated, it can progress to more serious conditions that require immediate descent. That’s why the itinerary includes built-in acclimatization days and your guide keeps an eye on your oxygen levels daily with a pulse oximeter to catch any warning signs early.

Helicopter evacuation can be arranged from most points along the Manaslu Circuit Trek route in case of a medical emergency or severe altitude sickness. Your guide will evaluate the situation, contact our office in Kathmandu and alert rescue services if you are unable or unsafe to walk down. This is exactly why it’s so important to have travel insurance that includes high-altitude helicopter evacuation, as the costs of rescue can be significant if you don’t have the right coverage.

Popular side trips include Manaslu Base Camp and Birendra Lake, but these are not on the standard 13-day itinerary. These places are generally included in the Manaslu Base Camp trek packages. Please let us know ahead of time if you want to combine your Manaslu Circuit Trek with another trek or tour. We will then make changes to your itinerary to fit your needs.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek has many suspension bridges to cross over rivers and gorges. They look a little daunting at first sight, but they are sturdy and well maintained. Your guide will always be with you and give clear instructions, especially in windy conditions. If you are afraid of heights, it is best to cross one person at a time, hold onto the railings, and don’t look straight down.

The highest peak you see in this trek is Mt. Manaslu itself, which is 8163 meters, the eighth-highest mountain in the world. You'll also see other peaks over 6,500 meters on the trek, some of them over 7,000 meters, all visible from different points along the trail.

Wifi is available at most tea houses along the Manaslu Circuit Trek, usually for a small extra fee. That said, the connection gets weaker and more unreliable as you climb higher, especially past Samagaon. A local SIM card with data works in the lower sections, but don't expect consistent internet access once you're deep in the mountains.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek itinerary is 13 days long, including the arrival and departure days in Kathmandu. Depending on how much time you have and how much of the region you want to explore, some trekkers prefer shorter 10-day versions or longer routes that include Tsum Valley.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is considered to be a little harder than the Annapurna Circuit Trek mainly because the trails are not as developed, the terrain is rougher, and there are fewer facilities along the way. Larke La Pass is at a similar height to Thorong La on the Annapurna Circuit but the infrastructure and shorter acclimatization window on Manaslu can make it feel tougher.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is doable for beginners with a decent level of fitness and no serious health conditions but it does require a bit more preparation than simpler treks such as Poon Hill. If this is your first time trekking, we recommend that you build up your stamina in the months leading up to your trip and be closely guided at all times, something our experienced guides are well prepared to support.

To confirm your booking for the Manaslu Circuit Trek, you need to make a deposit in advance, and the remaining balance is payable before or during the trek. The exact amounts and payment options will depend on the dates of your trip and the size of your group and can be discussed directly with our booking team.

Yes, you need a separate drone permit to fly drones in the Manaslu Conservation Area and restricted region. There are additional fees and restrictions. If you are planning to bring a drone, please let us know ahead of time so that we can help arrange the necessary permit and clarify where and when drone use is allowed.

Yes, if you intend to continue your journey to Tsum Valley, you will need a separate Tsum Valley permit, in addition to the regular Manaslu permits. This is not included in the standard Manaslu Circuit Trek package so let us know if you want to add Tsum Valley to your itinerary, and we can arrange the additional permit and route planning.

Also, how heavy can my day backpack be? Generally each porter carries up to 15 to 20 kg, which is generally shared between two trekkers, so try to keep your duffle bag within this limit. Your own personal day pack should weigh about 5 to 7 kg with just enough room for water, snacks, a camera, and a light jacket that you can quickly access whilst walking during the day.
