A Short Trek to Everest Base Camp itinerary covers 8 days of trekking, offering you lifetime memories.

Today, we will leave for the airport to catch an early flight to Lukla. After 35-40 minutes of scenic flight, we will reach the Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla, the starting point of our trek. After that, we will trek from Lukla to Phakding enjoying the first view of the Himalayan region. We will spend our first night of the trek at Phakding.

Next morning, after having breakfast we will continue our journey to Namche Bazaar following Dudh Koshi Riverbank. On the trail, we will cross several suspension bridges including the Hillary Suspension Bridge. Little onward there's Sagarmatha National Park checkpoint where we will register our permits and climb hills until we reach Namche Bazaar, the gateway to Everest Base Camp, and spend our second night here.

Another exciting day, we leave Namche Bazaar for Tengboche on a trail that constantly ascends. Passing through the pine forest, suspension bridges decorated with colorful prayer flags, and admiring the view of Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Nuptse, we reach Tengboche. In Tengboche, you will visit the ancient Tengboche Monastery.

We start our trek early in the morning through the path that gradually ascends. The trail passes through beautiful small villages, main walls, and Chortens. Moving forward along the Lobuche riverbank after a few hours of walking we will reach Dingboche. Here, we get an appreciative view of Mt. Ama Dablam and spend our fourth night of the trek.

Today is our first acclimatization day at Dingboche. Starting with an amazing morning view of Mt. Ama Dablam, we will have a tasty breakfast and explore the surrounding area. You can spend the day as your wish.

The trek takes approximately 3-4 hours to reach Lobuche. We will follow the trail through the valley between the peaks of Tawoche and Cholatse. WQe will traverse through many lodges and a stone memorial at Thukla. Crossing several streams and rocky landscapes we will reach Lobuche.

Today is the biggest day of the trek. We will continue our journey to Gorak Shep passing through the Khumbu Glacier. After reaching Gorak Shep, we will have lunch, leave our backpack in the tea house, and hike up to the Everest Base Camp. 

The Everest Base Camp is situated at the foot of Khumbu Icefall offering the most spectacular views of Mt. Everest and surrounding peaks. After visiting the Base Camp, we will come back to Gorak Shep and spend the night here.

After admiring the stunning Mt. Everest for a while, we will return back to Gorak Shep, collect our stuff, and take a scenic helicopter ride back to Kathmandu. The aerial journey offers some wonderful views of the mountains and the landscapes.

This trek takes you not only to higher altitudes but the trail is rocky, steep ascends, and descends. Our Short Everest Base Camp Trek itinerary includes 8 days of hike that demands 5-6 hours of walking per day which can be difficult for those who don't have a habit of long walks. 

The main difficulty is high altitudes which cause altitude sickness. Though you don't need to worry about your safety, Adventure Hikers provide experienced and knowledgeable guides who have well knowledge in first-aid. They will constantly check your oxygen level and react smartly in tough situations. 

Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness is a condition that happens when you travel at high altitudes and don't give your body enough time to acclimatize and adjust to the atmosphere. Trekkers, who move too quickly and ignore the preventive measure can suffer from altitude sickness. Those who follow the guidance and maintain their pace while ascending do not suffer.

Symptoms: Headache, nausea, vomiting, breathing problems, dizziness, insomnia, etc are the symptoms that are noticeable if you are having altitude sickness.

Preventive measures: Maintain your pace while walking, stay hydrated, and drink enough water. Avoid junk food, caffeine, and energy drinks. Also, do not smoke or drink alcohol.

Travel Insurance for Short Everest Base Camp Trek

The Short Everest Base Camp Trek travel insurance is not compulsory for any trekkers. But it is highly recommended to bring travel insurance with you while going on the trek. As you are trekking in the Himalayas at high altitudes, it is not going to be that easy, you may face some difficulties. In that case, travel insurance is necessary to cover all risks of medical charges and helicopter evacuation during the trek. 

Everest Base Camp Short Trek Permits

The Government of Nepal has implied permit cards to protect the beauty and animals of the region and also for the safety of visitors. You will need two permit cards to enter the Everest Region and they are:

  • Sagarmatha National Park entry permit.
  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality entrance card.

Both the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality and Sagarmatha National Park permits can be obtained from Lukla or Monjo. The Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality entrance card costs NPR 3000 per person and the Sagarmatha National Park permit costs NPR 3000 per person.

Spring Season (March to April)

Summer/monsoon Season (June to August)

Autumn Season (September to November)

You will get a single room with an attached bathroom, wifi, and hot showers in Lukla and Namche Bazaar. Onwards you will get a twin sharing room with a separate bathroom and some tea houses provide wifi and a hot shower facility. In higher altitudes, you can buy a bucket of hot water to bathe and boil drinking water.

In this Everest Base Camp Short trek, you will be trekking at a high altitude for long hours, so your body needs foods containing proteins, carbohydrates, and other nutrients. Tea houses provide delicious veg and non-veg food items. The tea house's menu includes both Nepalese and Western cuisine, so you will have a variety of food options.
