First day, we will drive to Machhakhola passing through green rolling hills, Budhi Gandaki river. Crossing some big town og Gorkha Bazaar and Arughat Bazar, we will reach Machhakhola.

After having our first mountain breakfast, we will start our trek. At first we will walk on the jeep trail and after crossing the first suspension bridge, we will follow the trekking trail to Jagat. Walking for a few hours, we will reach Tatopani, a natural hot spring where you can take a bath then continue our hiking which leads us to Dovan where we will stop for lunch. Continuing the journey, we will come to cross a suspension bridge over Yaru Khola and walk through Nepal's first Cantilever bridge and after 45 minutes of walk we reach Jagat. Stay here overnight.

Today, we will enter the Manaslu Conservation Area. We will have a delicious breakfast, and continue walking. We will come to cross a Suspension Bridge and reach the Philim village, where we will register our Manaslu Conservation Area and Restricted Area Permits. Walking for about 40 minutes, we will reach Ekle Bhatti where we will have our lunch.

Then after continuing our journey, we will reach a junction where the route is divided into two: the right one leads us to Tsum Valley and the left trail goes to Manaslu Circuit, we will take the right trail. Then following the trail ahead, we will reach Lokpa where we will stay overnight.

Today’s hike will take you higher into Tsum Valley where you’ll see amazing landscapes, Tibetan style villages, and monasteries. The trail passes through rivers, forests and small settlements. When you reach Chumling village, you will get the first glimpse of the Tibetan lifestyle.

Today, we will leave the Tsum Valley trail and follow the route that leads us to Manaslu Circuit. After breakfast, we will move towards Deng. The trail leads us downhill the same way to Lokpa, crosses the suspension bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River and will arrive at Nyak Phedi where we will have lunch. Then we will continue walking until we reach Deng Village. You will see the stunning Siringi Himal from Deng.

As you approach Namrung, you will walk on a steep trail enjoying some of the best views of the Manaslu range. After an appetizing breakfast at Namrung, we will move towards Syala Gaon. We will traverse through some old mountain villages. Continuing our journey after lunch, we will reach Syalagaon. You will see the most stunning sunset view in the evening.

We will wake up to a breathtaking view of Manaslu in front of us. Syala Goan is one of the most perfect places to witness the best of Mt. Manaslu and its neighbours. After breakfast, we will hike to Pungen Gumpa, on the way you will experience the most beautiful hours and views in your life. Pungen Gompa is the oldest Monastery situated at the lap of Mt. Manaslu. After savoring the breathtaking views, Punge Gompa, we will hike to Samagaon.

Today, we have an easy and short hike to Sambo village which is the last settlement of the region. The trail brings you through a charming valley with stunning beauty. On the way, you can spot the Himalayan Blue Sheep and other animals. After we arrive at Sambo, we will enjoy our lunch and do an acclimatization hike to the nearby hills.

Our today's hike is going to be short but tough as we will walk an ascending trail and also gain altitude. You may see the herds of blue sheep grazing on the wide pasture during the hike. After walking for 4-5 hours, we will reach Dharmasala which is our last overnight spot before the Larkya La Pass 5106 m.

This is the biggest and challenging day of the entire trek, as we will be crossing the challenging Larkya La Pass at 5,106 m./16748 ft. We will start the trek before the sun rises at around 4 am. The trail is not hard to climb but the distance makes it bit challenging. You will get the sense of great achievement when you reach the top of the Larkya Lapass and are surrounded by the spectacular mountains. It will be the ebay feeling ever that you will experience. You will take some moment to savor the views, photograph with the sign of the Larkela Pass Board and after that, we continue to descend towards Bhimthang.

After appetizing breakfast, we will trek towards Tilche. During the hike we will walk into the vibrant peaceful forests and cross several wooden bridges. The trail offers majestic vows of the mountains. After we arrive at Tilche, we will stay there overnight.

The Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is not technically difficult, it is the length, altitude, rugged landscapes, and remote conditions which makes the trek challenging. Our 19 days Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek involves long days hiking that ranges from 5-7 hours with steep ascends and descends. The maximum altitude you will reach during the trek is 5,160 meters which can cause altitude sickness, making it a significant challenge. Although the Tsum Valley sits at a lower altitude, the high-altitude area needs well acclimatization to avoid acute mountain sickness. 

The Manaslu Trekking trail is rugged with rocky paths, steep ascent, narrow ridgelines which can be slippery in rainy time and the limited infrastructure, basic tea house is a difficult part of this journey. However, the trek is not highly technical, it requires careful preparations, high mental endurance, and physical stamina, especially for the non-trekkers who are not familiar with high altitude trekkings. 

Altitude Sickness

Altitude Sickness is a very common thing in the altitude above 3000 meters. During this trek, you will reach 5,160 meters high altitude, indicating that you can be hit by altitude sickness. Those who ignore the instructions of the guide, climb rapidly and don’t give the body time to adjust in the low oxygen area suffers from altitude sickness.

Symptoms:  Breathing problem, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, loss of appetite.

Prevention: Ascend gradually, take proper acclimatization, stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, smoking, energy drinks or anything that makes your body dehydrated. You can also take medicine with a doctor's prescription.

Required Permits for Manaslu Tsum Valley Trekking

The Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is one of the most incredible adventures that requires careful preparations, especially in case of permits. As the Manaslu region is a restricted area, the government of Nepal implies various permits to protect the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the region. Autumn Season (September to November)

Winter is another off-season time to trek in Nepal. The weather becomes too cold, especially at high altitudes with snowstorms. Accommodation and Foods during Manaslu Circuit with Tsum Valley Trek

You will find several teahouses and lodges on the Manaslu trekking route. Teahouses provide you common accommodation with basic facilities and lodges are rare in the region and comparatively more expensive than tea houses. Tea house offers you a twin sharing room with a simple bathroom and somewhere a separate bathroom . There will be no AC or heater in the rooms but you can ask for additional blankets if you need.

Trekkers who want to have camping experience can complete the Manaslu trek by camping. It can be pretty tough than teahouse trekking but with all necessary equipment, it is possible.

For food, you will be served Nepali cuisine which includes Dal Bhat Tarkari (lentil soup, rice, veggies), spinach, etc. Teahouses have various cuisines on their menu but as you reach higher-altitude, you will have very limited options. You will get everything as per the tea house menu.

Absolutely not, as the Manaslu region is a restricted area it is not allowed to do solo trekking. You must hire a registered guide from registered trekking agency. In fact, you cannot do a solo trek in any of the restricted trekking areas in Nepal.

The Manaslu with Tsum Valley trek spans for 16-24 days. As this trip is customizable you can either shorten or extend the days as per your preferences.
