All these things are available in the Tsum Valley Trek route.

If you are looking for ancient cultural encounters in your walking holiday that encompasses mountains and wonders of Mother Nature, then choose the Tsum Valley Trek. Moreover, the trek is comparatively shorter than the cornerstone trekking trail of the region, the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Don’t hesitate to contact our travel planners to book this amazing cultural short Manaslu Trek package. Explore monasteries to tranquil villages in the lap of Mount Manaslu.

Where is Tsum Valley?

The location of Tsum Valley is in the Gorkha district of Nepal. The district in itself has historical significance to Nepal. The trails of the Manaslu region stretch from Aarughat Gandaki Rural Municipality and covers almost every part of the Chumnubri Rural Municipality. It borders Dhading and Manang districts of Nepal. Alongside these districts of Nepal, the region also borders with Tibet (autonomous region of People’s Republic of China). Nepal Government has listed the place inside the restricted region.

Monasteries of Manaslu Tsum Valley

You will wonder why the region is the cultural capital once you visit the place. Most of our trekkers get surprised by the architecture of the monasteries present in the trail. Accessibility is only by walking. However, there are magnificent monasteries which are built over 1000 years ago. In fact, you can find many sacred shrines, monasteries, and Milarepa during the Tsum Valley Trek in Nepal. Some major monasteries in the trail are Rachen Gompa, Mu Gompa, Mila Repa Phiren Phu Cave Monastery, Gumba Lungdang, etc.

Nubri and Tsum People of Manaslu

Majority of people living in the Tsum Valleys of Manaslu region are either Nubri or Tsum People. These people have their own language, culture, traditions, and values. Therefore, they are the preserved people of Nepal and listed as the special ethnic communities. If you are trying to learn about the traditional Tibetan culture, then these people’s villages located around the Tsum Valley Trek route are ideal place. Therefore, we urge you to book the Tsum Valley Trek in Nepal with Adventure Hikers Pvt. Ltd.

Difficulty Level of Tsum Trek in Manaslu

It’s not easy like many travel sites and agencies suggest. Their published words are just commercial fluff. The difficulty level of the Tsum Valley Trek in Nepal is moderately challenging. Please note that the trek is not extremely hard like the Everest Three High Passes Trek but it is way harder than regular Everest Base Camp Trek and the Annapurna Base Camp Trek in Nepal. Rugged and raw terrain, steep uphill and downhill sections make the trail harder for trekkers.

Chum Nubri Trek in Nepal: Permits and Rules Update

Learn about the Chum Nubri Trek in Nepal about permits and rules update. The trail is inside the restricted area of Nepal. Therefore, you must obtain special restricted area permit. Since 2026, solo trekking is also allowed but a trekker must hire a trekking guide. Solo unguided trek is not allowed and the rule applies to group as well. Besides special restricted area permit, trekkers must get the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) permit and Chumnubri Rural Municipality entry permit. Unlike the Manaslu Circuit Trek and Manaslu Base Camp Trek, the Tsum Valley Trek trekkers don’t need to obtain the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) permit. If you add the Manaslu Circuit Trek, then you must obtain ACAP permit too.

Road To Manaslu Trail Head: Kathmandu to Machha Khola Honest Guide

The travel planners of the Adventure Hikers Pvt. Ltd. never tell you sugar coated information about any trekking trail of Nepal. Before starting the trek, trekkers must reach the trail head. The usual starting point of the trek is Machha Khola which is the trail head of the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal.

Total road distance from Kathmandu to Machha Khola is about 165 kilometers. 138 kilometers from Kathmandu to Aaarughat road section is easy due to asphalt road. Unfortunately, Aarughat to Machha Khola is dirt road full of big potholes, boulders, and off-road in the cliffside along the banks of Budi Gandaki River. Moreover, it is tiring to travel by local bus. Therefore, it is wise to use the 4WD jeep for transportation. Our Tsum Valley Trek package has services of jeep transport to and from Kathmandu.

Which is the Best Time to Explore Chhum Nubri Gorkha Nepal?

Choose months of spring season (March – May) and months of autumn season (September – November) for better trekking experiences. However, the journey of the Tsum Valley Trek is not like the Manaslu Circuit Trek. The maximum altitude that you stay overnight is below 4000 m.

Therefore, it is possible to do winter season (December – February) trekking in Nepal. Monsoon season (June – August) is not recommended time to do the trek. First thing is that the season is not safe due to heavy rainfall and chances of landslides. Another thing is that the season may not provide best chances of mountain sceneries. Therefore, avoid monsoon season.
