Essential Information

Here is some additional information you must know about the Mardi Himal Trek before embarking on the journey.

The Mardi Himal Trek difficulty level

The Mardi Himal trekking is an ideal adventure offering a remarkable fusion of tranquility and excitement with its exceptional mountain panoramas. The Marti Himal route can be challenging due to the high ascend, rough terrains, altitude, and the weather which completely depends on which season you choose to trek to Mardi Himal. The Mardi Himal is a moderate-level trek that can be done by anyone having physical fitness and capable of walking for 5-6 hours on snowy trails.

Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness is a condition that happens when you ascend to a higher altitude continuously. The higher you go, the lower your oxygen level will be. Trekkers who ascend quickly and don't have time to adjust their bodies to lower oxygen availability at a higher altitude can suffer from altitude sickness.

Symptoms: Headache, insomnia, loss of appetite, breathing problems, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and dizziness are the symptoms that are noticed if you are having altitude sickness.

Preventive measures: Have proper acclimatization, maintain your pace while ascending, drink enough water and fluids, and avoid consuming alcoholic items, dairy products, energy drinks, and smoking. Follow the safety measures suggested by the guide/company.

Travel Insurance for the Mardi Himal Trek

Travel insurance is not compulsory to do the Mardi Himal trek. Though you are trekking in the high Himalayas, you may experience some difficulties. So, we strongly suggest you bring travel insurance to cover the risk related to high-altitude treks. Make sure your travel insurance includes an emergency helicopter rescue, medical bills, theft, accidental damage, and trip cancellation.

Mardi Himal Trek Permits

Like other trekkings in the Annapurna region, we must need a trekking permit for The Mardi Himal trek. Without a permit, you are not allowed to enter the Annapurna region. As the Mardi Himal lies in the Annapurna Conservation Area, you have to obtain two types of permits and they are:

Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) permit.

Tourist Information Management System (TIMS) card.

Regarding the cost for Mardi Himal Trek, ACAP permits cost NPR 3000 per person and TIMS cards cost NPR 2000 per person. But for the SAARC country citizens, the price is different. It costs NPR 1000 per person for an ACAP permit and NPR 300 per person for a TIMS card.

The Best Time to do the Mardi Himal Trek

The weather is an important factor when it comes to trekking. People do Mardi Himal trekking throughout the year, but it comes with some ups and downs based on seasons.  Spring and Autumn are the peak seasons for Mardi Himal trekking. These seasons offer the best weather with clear skies, mountain views, and beautiful vegetation. During monsoon, the trails get wet and slippery, while winter coincides with cold and challenges. But if you can handle the hurdle of the weather, you can do the Mardi Hila trek in these seasons also.

Spring Season  (March to May)

During the Spring season, the temperature is mild and the trekking trail condition is perfect. The daily temperature in the higher altitudes of the Mardi Himal trek ranges from 5 to 0 degrees Celsius and lower altitudes are warmer. In this time, the rhododendron flowers bloom adding white, pink, and colors that makes the forest gorgeous. The weather and sky are clear, letting you enjoy the spectacular mountain views.

Summer/monsoon Season (June to August)

In summer, the temperatures are higher and the monsoon makes the trails muddy and slippery. The temperatures at higher elevations are 15-25 degrees Celsius in the daytime and it is cold at 5- 10 degrees Celsius at night. Even though the rain may cause some challenges, the various plants and nature are in their ideal condition offering a greenery view to the trekking regions.

Autumn Season (September to December)

Autumn is the perfect time of the year to do the Mardi Himal Trek. It is the post-monsoon period making the surroundings of the Annapurna region clear. The sight of mountains and the scenic beauty of the region is picturesquely perfect at this time.

Winter Season (December to February)

During the winter the trekking trails are covered with snow and the temperature falls up to -5 degrees, making the trek a bit challenging. But the beauty of the region and the snow-capped peaks look breathtaking. The whole Annapurna region including natural vegetation, landscapes, and mountains is fully covered with white shining snow that provides a vision of heaven.

In conclusion, The Spring and Autumn seasons are the best time for the Mardi Himal Trek. This time is good to avoid any kind of risk and fully enjoy a stress-free trek.

Accommodation and Meals during the Mardi Himal Trek

During the trek, you will find many comfortable teahouses to rest in and also enjoy the traditional Nepalese foods. Though the Mardi Himal Trek is a newly opened trekking route, there are fewer hotels and tea houses in comparison to other trekking routes.  The tea houses provide common and comfortable rooms which are mostly on a sharing basis. The rooms are simple with comfortable beds and separate bathrooms, although some teahouses provide a single room with an attached bathroom. You will get a hot shower by paying extra bucks.

You will get to enjoy many delicious foods along the trek, but it is better to focus on what your body needs rather than your favorite foods. The foods you consume during the trek determine the quantity of stamina in your body that is most important for making your trek pleasing. You will find both Nepalese and Western cuisine on the menu. You can buy snacks, juices, chocolates, and many things in the shops. We suggest you avoid junk foods and have only nutritious food to provide your body with the required energy. You can get boiled water and normal drinking water at any time in the teahouses.
